I scored these 2 discarded books at the local bi-annual library sale last weekend. The
Modern Artists in America, No 1 is edited by
Robert Motherwell and
Ad Reinhardt and published in 1951. The cover design is also done by Robert Motherwell. Black & white interior images are from the avant-garde journal
Dau al Set, (The Seven Spotted Dice) created by an artistic and literary group in Barcelona between 1948 and 1956. They had connections to the Surrealists and Dadaist movements, and most notably the works of Max Ernst, Paul Klee and Joan Miro.
Below is a 1960 book of short stories with a cover design by
Edward Gorey. Lovely lettering!
