The great Italian artist and designer, Bruno Munari (1907-1998) contributed volumes to the field of design, literature and the visual arts. Much to my pleasant surprise, he also designed 350 t-shirts for publisher Maurizio Corraini Editore. Two versions of the t-shirts, illustrating variations on the ampersand and the slipknot, are listed for sale in Bromer Booksellers' latest Book Arts catalogue. Inside Munaris' instructions on how to wear the shirt reveal, "It is very wrong to put both arms in the hole for the head because you would then put the head in one of two holes for the arms and the infernal doubt would be to think which of the two holes fit it". No date on either, but both are listed in fine condition in a lightly worn container. |
